The South African government remains committed to growing trade with China and would like to see greater participation of Chinese companies in the country. According to a spokesman for Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, who recently returned from a visit to China, the government is encouraged by the growing presence of Chinese companies in varied sectors of the South African economy but would like to see greater participation in sectors such as renewable energy, mining, banking, manufacturing and rail infrastructure. “China is South Africa’s number one trading partner and South Africa is China’s number one trading partner in Africa,” said the spokesman. “Trade between the two countries continues to grow and South Africa is working hard towards growing trade even more.
