China prepares to take on the West in megaship orders

As Chinese carriers get ready to compete head-to-head with their Western rivals, the race toward ultra-large tonnage among container line alliances appears to be escalating, even as the overcapacity cloud darkens.

As the Asian lines race to catch up, Cosco is the latest to be reported to be joining the mega boxship ordering spree, and is being linked in the international press to an imminent deal for 20 000 TEU ships.
