In a move to help African countries diversify their trade, the Chinese government has expanded its zero import tariff structure.
With effect from December 10, China is offering offered a zero tariff on 97% of commodities imported from seven African countries, including South Africa, Rwanda, Angola and Zambia.
Qian Keming, China’s vice minister of commerce, was cited by the China Daily newspaper as saying that China would offer more assistance, including holding specialised goods exhibitions, to broad-based African exports to China and help African nations build more manufacturing facilities as well as diversify their economic structures and sales channels.
