Cheers to 20 years

Coinciding with South Africa’s 20 years of democracy milestone, Italian ro-ro shipping line, Ignazio Messina, celebrated its 20th anniversary in South Africa last week and reiterated its commitment to growing trade to the country. “Ignazio Messina South Africa was our first agency outside of Europe and we are pleased to have grown with the country and our clients,” Dr Ignazio Messina, CEO of Ignazio Messina and director of Ignazio Messina South Africa told guests in Johannesburg last week. He noted that the US$300m investment in four new vessels for the SA trade route – rolled out over three years since 2011 – had been completed. “The biggest ro-ro containership vessels in the world – which can accommodate every kind of cargo of up to seven metres high – make the South African trade route more competitive, connecting directly East African, Red Sea and Mediterranean ports,” said Messina. To celebrate its growth in the country, the company donated R50 000 to the Little Eden Society in Edenvale which cares for 300 people with intellectual disabilities.
