CFR Freight has introduced new
services into Zambia as part of
its overall strategy to launch
additional options to landlocked
countries on the African continent.
“Road services, specifically to
Zambia, have taken off very well
and our volumes are growing in
line with this,” managing director
of CFR Freight, Martin Keck, told
FTWO.
He commented that CFR Freight
was adding more
destinations in
West Africa
and possibly
Egypt and
that it
expected
to see even more future growth
in Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana and
Zambia.
“We are also seeing smoother
processes on the road services –
which is encouraging in terms of
growth opportunities,” said Keck,
adding that there were still frequent
delays at borders. Other challenges
to trade growth in Africa include
monetary issues, particularly in
Angola.
According to Keck, seafreight
volumes to east and west Africa
have grown “substantially” and the
company has added frequencies to
Kenya and Ghana.
“We continually monitor volumes
on trade routes on which we do
not currently offer direct services
in an effort to gauge demand and
introduce new services when they
become viable,” he said.
