CD upgrades give shippers more time

Shippers who are moving containers
and automobile units through the
“inland harbour” at the City Deep
Terminal in Johannesburg to the
ports now have an extra three
days in which to process their
consignments.
This is due to the completion
of the upgrade at the City Deep
terminal, improving systems and
technology to increase capacity,
according to the Transnet Port
Terminals (TPT) container and
automotive business unit.
And, said Glenn Delve, marketing
director of the ocean carrier MSC:
“It also means that, since May 3, the
inland stack of Natcor exports has
been closing only two days prior to
the port terminal stack opening,
compared to the previous five days.
“This allows shippers more
flexibility and increased time for the
packing of large consignments.”
