CAR CARRYING major Wallenius
Wilhelmsen Logistics has appointed
Captain Goeran Soderdahl as its
new owner’s representative based in
Durban.
“It’s evidence of our strong
commitment to the South African
market,” says Soderdahl, who arrived in
South Africa last month.
He previously headed up quality
and safety for Europe, a portfolio
which encompassed the South African
operation.
Soderdahl sees significant growth
potential for the line on the SA route.
“We will be looking at opportunities
to link South Africa into our other
services.
“We are keen to expand our service
offering to include our other products
like supply chain management, vehicle
processing and inland distribution
which we offer through the WWL-CAT
JV, ” he told FTW.
The line currently offers a
fortnightly service from Europe, calling
at Port Elizabeth, East London and
Durban and loading cargo for Oceania.
A recent caller at Durban, the
Fidelio, was the largest car-carrier ever
to visit South Africa. Designed to carry
up to 8 000 cars at a time, the vessel
is the second of five sister ships to join
the fleet.
