The addition of bunkering

services to Maputo has

made it more attractive to

shipping lines, according to

Johann Botha, commercial

director of the Maputo Port

Development Company

(MPDC).

It’s a joint venture

between MPDC and

Petromoc Bunkering

which has been providing

bunkering services since

November 2016.

Shipping lines and

cargo owners are saving

thousands of dollars a

call now that they can

take on bunkers and load

to capacity in the port

of Maputo following the

dredging of the channel,

he says.

Work is also under way

to deepen the permanent

berths at the Matola bulk

loading facility to handle

80 000-ton vessels.

At present they are

being accommodated by

a temporary deep-water

loading facility.
