Bumper crop for Seatrade

TERRY HUTSON IT WAS a full house at Durban’s Fresh Produce Terminal (FPT) on June 3 when all three berths were taken up with Seatrade ships, all of them handled by Supermaritime SA. The three vessels were the reefers Spring Tiger, loading for UK/NWC jointly with LauCool, Cool Express loading for the Japan-Steri market, and the Nova Galicia loading for Western Mediterranean ports. Portside Shipping Services handled the stevedoring duties for the latter vessel. Seatrade takes South African fruit to a number of destinations including the UK and North West Continent, Western and Eastern Mediterranean and Japan. Denny Reddy, FPT manager in Durban, shared this unusual moment with the 600-strong work team at South Africa’s largest and busiest fruit terminal. He pointed out that the three Seatrade vessels were lifting a total of 8666 pallets of fruit, which is more than half a million cartons - more then enough for around 20 million people on three continents to enjoy the best of South African fruit.
