ALAN PEAT DESPITE THE adverse rand exchange rate, the Gauteng freight market is very buoyant, with lots of imports still flowing in particularly from the east, according to Margrit Wolff, MD of Buffalo Freight Systems. “It’s bubbling,” she said, “and we’re doing very well – having shown a huge increase last year and we expect this to continue.” It’s on the cards that Buffalo will soon be buying its own premises in Johannesburg, with both Pretoria and Durban also going very well. But more immediately in the offing this year is a Cape Town office, according to Wolff. “We’ll definitely be trying to get established in that market,” she said. The company is certainly becoming more involved in full logistics management – including finance. “We have international partners who do the pick-and-pack, and we do the direct distribution to the stores,” said Wolff – adding that this is an area in which she expects Buffalo to grow tremendously, and where it is expanding its fleet of vehicles. Airfreight is also an extremely good department within her business, she added.
