Botswana volumes lower

Volumes into Botswana are stable albeit slightly lower than expected ahead of the end-of-year peak. According to Kevin Lees, managing director of Botswanabased Truckhire, the ongoing global economic fluctuations continue to impact on the landlocked country. “Volumes have not picked up to the extent one would have expected for this time of the year. It is a clear sign that the economy has not grown, but with an election in the country next year it is expected that volumes will increase significantly ahead of that.” At the same time, said Lees, several of the big projects in the country have been completed. “We saw some massive loads being brought in during the building of several capital projects – including the construction of a power station. There are also several projects in the pipeline that have not yet kicked off.” Lees said despite volumes not showing growth at present he remained positive about the opportunities, not only in Botswana but southern Africa as a whole.
