Blooming good effort all round!

Ray Smuts IT'S NOT only the folk at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens who are smiling at the 24th gold medal from the Chelsea Flower Show in so many years but the 'backroom crew' at Cape Town's Docks Shipping who handled the delicate cargo. Airfreight manager Annette McCarthy ensured there was sufficient space on SAA out of Cape Town to London by making a booking well in advance and says arrangements went like clockwork. The consignment consisted of two AAP containers of exhibition material weighing 594kg and including a huge backdrop of Table Mountain and two pallets (304 kg) of fresh cut flowers including several species of protea, aloe and the well-known 'Welwitschia mirabilis' stump valued at R120 000. "We needed to co-operate very closely with our agents Air Sea Worldwide Logistics in the UK who handled all customs formalities as well as delivery to the show." This is the second year that Cape Town-based Docks Shipping, in the air and sea forwarding business for more than 70 years, has been chosen to handle the Kirstenbosch consignment, and McCarthy is confident she and her team will be back on board again next year.
