Tamica Ching, sales and marketing director at Sasfin Premier Logistics, was bitten by the freight bug 19 years ago and has ‘never looked back’, is unfazed by challenges and loves adrenalin-fuelled activities such as bungee jumping, fire-walking and gorge swinging. She believes the freight industry chose her and, despite some challenges, she enjoys every minute of it. “This industry is fast-moving and dynamic, with countless opportunities to grow your knowledge and understanding of commodities and business holistically. Each day is a new experience and, working closely with our clients, I have had the privilege of seeing the process unfold from raw material to finished goods. I get to work closely with people from different cultures, industries and parts of the globe.” Ching admits that the freight industry has, historically, been male-dominated and initially it could be a challenge for a woman to break into it, especially when they’re new to a company. “However, once you’ve proven your value, gender should not play a role.” She has an “awesome, supportive husband and two daughters” and balancing a demanding career and family is never easy, but it can be achieved. “We take regular breaks as a family and often visit the magical Kruger National Park,” she said.
