Berth 107 on the port of Durban’s container terminal on Pier 1 has been dredged, allowing ships of up to a permissible draft of 12.2 metres to berth at the quay, according to Durban port manager, Moshe Motlohi.
“We are also making progress on procuring the services of a hired dredger for the Port of Durban,” he informed FTWO. “The request for proposals closed on August 26 and we intend to award the tender to the successful bidder by early October.”
Port landlord and manager, Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), is continuing to dredge the berth pockets using the Impisi plough tug, while the Italeni dredger undergoes compulsory planned maintenance until end-September.
