The water crisis at the Beitbridge border between South Africa and Zimbabwe has been resolved, a clearing agent in Musina has confirmed.

“It’s all systems go at the border, transports have been assisted and the line at the border has been reduced significantly.”

According to the agent the border closure was scheduled to last for 12 hours, from dusk till dawn, starting at 6pm on Monday evening and ending at 6am yesterday morning. Instead the closure lasted for 24 hours.

“The border itself gets its water straight from the river. A pump at the pumping station had issues and that is what caused the problem,” the agent said.

“The problem here is that there is a lack of maintenance at the border post.

“Thankfully, transporters who were waiting in line were diverted to nearby truck parks where they waited for communication, confirming that the border was operational again.”
