AIRPORT SECURITY will be the leading component of training classes at the Aviation Academy for Southern Africa (Aafsa) this year. "You see the problem worldwide and we have to face up to it," says managing director Dries Viljoen. "Security in all its forms will be a major focus point and we will not only be handling it here, but I will be travelling to Mauritius and Dubai in March to train people on the ground in those regions. Warehouse security is something we will be working on very closely." One-day sessions on security will be handled at Johannesburg International Airport, with personnel at all levels, from loading and warehouse staff right through to aircraft crews to be involved. Refresher courses on existing general regulations and dangerous goods handling will also be held along with cargo courses where knowledge of how to pack and load cargo and the handling of these consignments on aircraft will come under the spotlight. A new course deals with regulations governing the transport and handling of live animals. Here, in addition to ground handlers and airline staff, service providers are required to attend courses which cover three days in total.
