RISK MANAGEMENT and insurance consulting organisation Aon South Africa, part of the Aon Africa group and global Aon Corporation, is adding significant benefits to its marine insurance covers – focusing specifically on the sub Saharan African market, says Cheryl Roestoff, Aon South Africa’s Gauteng-based marine business unit head. “As a large global player Aon has already secured a significant share of the local marine market. Net income increased by 4 2% on global and local accounts last year and this year we are focusing on growth opportunities in sub Saharan Africa.” Roestoff, whose 27 years in the industry include experience in the insurance and freight forwarding sectors, is currently developing products specifically focused on Africa. With 550 offices in more than 120 countries worldwide, including representation in all sub Saharan countries, Aon Corporation has the capacity to provide its clients with major benefits, says Roestoff who believes the company's flexible product offering, which caters to cargo owners as well as freight operators, differentiates it in the global market. “Our thorough understanding of markets and relevant legislation allows us to adapt solutions to our African clients’ specific needs.” Roestoff says that one of the major problems in Africa is that of hijacking and theft which is why risk management and security programmes are so important. “One of our products, for example, is linked to a security feature which offers customers more value for their money. This is the type of structured product that the company will be rolling out to the rest of the continent.”
