Another rhino horn bust at Ortia

Customs has once again intercepted a consignment of illegal rhino horn at OR Tambo International Airport (Ortia) worth R1.7 million according to a statement released by the South African Revenue Service (Sars) on Tuesday.

Nine rhino horns cut into different sizes – weighing 13.2 kilograms in total – were found in a box en-route to Hong Kong (China). The goods were handed over to the South African Police Service and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (Hawks) for further investigation.

This follows a recent bust at Ortia where seven kilograms of rhino horn declared as teabags were confiscated last week.
