Angola pumps up Agoa exports

ALAN PEAT ACCORDING TO the latest figures released to FTW by the trade law centre of Southern Africa (tralac), African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) exports from the region to the US have increased by 77% in the year to September 2004, compared with the same period last year. Almost half of this increase has followed the inclusion of Angola under the AGOA dispensation. Among Southern African Customs Union (SACU) countries, SA’s exports have remained virtually unchanged in dollar terms, while Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia and Botswana have shown significant year-on-year increases.
