The City of Ekurhuleni will
finalise the consultation
process on the 25-year Aerotropolis
Master Plan this month. This after
the Gauteng Department of Roads
and Transport had completed a
five-year implementation plan for
the development.
The City embarked on an
engagement programme with key
business and freight stakeholders
in August, a process which
Gauteng MEC for Roads and
Transport, Ismail Vadi, said was
viewed as critical to the ultimate
development and sustainability of
the project.
“The success of this project
depends largely on whether
the private sector buys into its
economic viability and potential
for enterprise growth and
development,” said Vadi, adding
that government had demonstrated
its commitment to this project and
“has the political will to provide
the enabling environment for its
success.”
Vadi further noted that of the
R6.15-billion allocated to his
department for the 2014/15 fiscal
period, some R2-billion would be
earmarked for the development of
transport infrastructure.
