With government fast-tracking the implementation of Aarto, companies should be carefully reviewing employment contracts, operating procedures and all company documents relating to driving vehicles and transporting goods or passengers, says traffic and transport specialist Alta Swanepoel. The Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (Aarto) Act will penalise law breakers not just with fines but also with a demerit point system that could see drivers losing their licences. “The general administration of vehicles should also be carefully re-examined to ensure roadworthiness and all other requirements of road use are met,” she said.
