Despite a late start to the season due to a severe drought, tobacco sales (in terms of volume) in Zimbabwe have surpassed the considerably lower target set by the industry.
The Tobacco Industry & Marketing Board (TIMB) released the latest figures on its website yesterday (Tuesday), showing that 192.5 million kilograms – worth US$566 million – had been sold to date.
According to reports, government predicted 222 million (over last year’s figure of 216 million kilograms produced) but the drought saw industry members adjust their target to 85 million kilograms.
