It may soon be easier for South African and Zambian business people and tourists to cross the borders of the two countries.
Zambian home affairs minister, Stephen Kampyongo, says the country will be introducing biometric or electronic passports in a bid to ease the movement of people in the SADC region. Kampyongo said preparatory talks between the two countries to modernise passports to electronic passports follow the establishment of a bi-national commission (BNC).
This after an agreement was signed by Zambian President Edgar Lungu and his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa. Kampyongo said that the modernisation of civil rights registration and electronic passports would spur development in the SADC region as skills transfer among countries would be more easily facilitated.
