Barloworld merger adds muscle

ALAN PEAT
THE RECENT merger with Barloworld Logistics has opened a lot of doors to expansion for ZA Trans, with two of these openings in the Cape region, according to ZA Trans branch manager in Cape Town, Kurt Beining.
“With the acquisition, this creates a whole new dynamic for us because of the synergies within the two companies,” he told FTW.
“ZA Trans brings its muscle in seafreight to add to Barloworld Logistics’ speciality in warehousing and road distribution in South Africa.”
This, Beining added, sees a new operation which has strength across the logistics board - with full facilities for road freight and distribution, rail, air and sea forwarding.
“From here on out we can supply a complete supply chain solution from the source to the door of the customer’s customer - and even from the source’s source. Effectively this creates a homologous supply chain.”
This also covers the complete range of product types. “Everything from perishables to steel bars,” he said. Business is so buoyant that ZA Trans has now outgrown the size of its facility at Cape Town airport’s Industria Estate - and this is now being expanded rapidly, doubling the size of the warehousing and office complex.
“We also opened up in Port Elizabeth from March 1,” he said. “Obviously there is a quite a huge chunk of South Africa’s automotive industry based in that region, and, with the tie-up with Barloworld Logistics, we will effectively be able to cross-pollinate clients within the group.”
