THE Grincor subsidiary, Grindrod J&J, has further expanded its operation in the Western Cape, according to Peter Stoffberg, Cape Town-based GM for sales and marketing.
This, he told FTW, by opening a modern facility in Montague Gardens in addition to its already established Paarden Eiland operation.
This new facility consists of a 6 000m2 warehouse and 10 000m2 of hardened yard space. The facility is secured with electrified fencing and fully floodlit - and capable of providing 24-hour service.
“This modern facility has been established due to the requirements of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) cargoes.
“And at Montague Gardens both containers (empties and fulls) and general cargo can be handled,” said Stoffberg.
The location of this warehouse was a strategic choice, Stoffberg added, designed to provide the company’s client base with an outlying warehouse to assist in the distribution of cargoes.
Meantime, the primary warehouse at Nereide Street - which is within two hundred metres of the port - provides a turnkey facility for handling both import and export cargoes.
“It has a 34ton gantry for the easy handling and dispatch of containers,” said Stoffberg. “Cargo is, therefore, received and dispatched timeously.”
In addition to the two modern warehouses, the company has invested in qualified staff
and sophisticated equipment - as well as
leading technology within the information technology (IT) field.
Cargoes from a broad spectrum - bulk products to finished goods - can be handled, according to Stoffberg, who added that the company has developed IT systems to give its clients total control and accuracy of product handling at all times.
For example, he told FTW, a system has been developed specialising in the handling of export wine - with a bar coding system of control.
