It's the start of an international expansion drive, says director Warren Erfmann ZA TRANS has expanded internationally with the acquisition of a UK freight forwarding company which this month began trading as ZA Trans UK Limited.

Based in the World Cargo Centre at London's Heathrow Airport, the company is headed up by veteran freight forwarding specialist Vic Erfmann, well-known in local industry circles. It has six receiving depots around the UK as well as a warehouse in close proximity to Tilbury for seafreight consolidations.

Cape Town-based ZA Trans director Warren Erfmann told FTW that the company's cargo volumes - both air and sea - on the trade motivated the move.

But we're intending not only to expand UK-SA business, which is one our largest trades, but to look further than that to the Americas and Far East trade lanes from the UK.

We do a lot of trade internationally and ultimately are keen to open ZA Trans offices worldwide. Also on the cards is the opening of a Durban office within the next few months. Headquartered in Sandton, ZA Trans currently has offices in Kempton Park and Cape Town.

Having our own office, rather than working through an agent, allows us to control our own destiny, Erfmann told FTW.

Vic Erfmann knows the South African market inside out, while the UK-based staff, which ZA Trans has kept on, has a lot of expertise in the UK market. This offers our clients the best of both worlds.
