The ro-ro terminal in Le Havre, France will welcome the world’s biggest pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), the M/V Höegh Target, on its maiden voyage today before it sets sail for Africa.
The vessel is the first of a series of six Post-Panamax vessels that Höegh Autoliners plans to build within the next 18 months.
With a carrying capacity of 8 500 CEUs (car equivalent units), the vessel has a deck space of 71 400 square metres and a door 6.50 metres high.
The vessel, registered to Norwegian firm Hoegh Autoliners, was officially launched in June and has since sailed from Xiamen, China, to Britain via ports in South Korea, Japan, Italy, Spain, Holland and Belgium.
Steinar Løvdal, head of capacity management at Höegh Autoliners, said: “The launch of the Höegh Target is a milestone in the company’s history. This is the first Post-Panamax PCTC we have and the New Horizon design truly represents state-of-the-art engineering”.
The Höegh Target will service the South Africa/Indian Ocean/Oceania route.
