Working with Sars to facilitate legitimate trade

Technology can play
a huge role in
minimising
risk
within an
organisation,
according
to Michael
Henning of
Easyclear.
The software
solutions
provider
to the
freight forwarding industry
is continuously working
on adjusting software to
improve the way risk is
handled. This either from a
compliance perspective,
or simply by
streamlining existing
processes that address
constraints within the
operational process.
“Our work with the
Sars modernisation
project team only
complements the
NCAP programme
in an effort
to facilitate
legitimate
trade and
reduce risk
to the fiscus
in the long
term,” he
explains.
One of
the biggest challenges when
it comes risk management,
says Henning, is for all
involved to identify the
risk, its implications
and importance. “The
technological revolution
has accelerated
globalisation and created
a dynamically changing
world that is increasingly
challenging, competitive
and complex. This makes
the identification of risk
more complex in a business
environment that changes so
quickly and is inf luenced by
factors that are often outside
of the supply chain’s sphere
of inf luence,” he says.
Various studies within
the logistics supply chain
over recent years have
highlighted several areas of
concern, says Henning.
“Infrastructure,
operational inefficiencies,
human resources and cost
are all factors that have an
impact. It is safe to say that
inefficiencies in one part of
the supply chain will have
a negative
impact on the
performance
of the supply
chain as a
whole – and
this speaks to
the theory of
constraints,”
he says. “As
a software
service
provider
Easyclear has
its focus set
on technology
that may impact the
effectiveness and efficiency
of logistics operators and
their supply chains. This
can be considered an
internal risk that can be
mitigated through effective
use of current advances
in technology as well as
integration with third party
solutions
for the
facilitation
of seamless
data
transactions
between
platforms,
allowing
for greater
visibility
across the
supply
chain. This
in turn can
increase the
effectiveness and efficiency
within the business
environment in which
logistics companies operate.”
