Work due to start on Maputo Ring Road

With 80 cars a day being added to the roads in Maputo and neighbouring Matola, the City Council has contracted China Road and Bridge Construction to build a US315- million ring road. This will help speed up road transport to and from the port of Maputo. The 74-kilometre ring road will be able to carry 3 600 vehicles an hour in each direction, and will link the country’s main north-south highway to the Maputo-South Africa road. Maputo mayor David Simango told a media conference that US$300 million had been pledged by the Chinese government, with the municipality making up the difference.
