Well-connected Chinese agency ensures competitive rates

As the name implies, the Far East is a long way away and many importers are wary of dealing with “fly-by-night” agents at the other side of the world. “This is something our customers do not have to worry about,” says Benny Naidoo, sales and service manager at DJM Global Logistics. “We have an agency in China which has built up very strong relationships with reliable companies over four to five years. These companies in turn have ties with the shipping lines and can therefore offer us the best rates available.” While DJM deals with both imports and exports Naidoo says that their strength lies in arranging absolutely everything, from forwarding to clearing, for their clients in South Africa. The company is also EDI accredited which means it can have documents cleared within an hour. Imports comprise mainly consumables such as packaging for biscuits as well as DIY tools. In peak season the company imports between 30 and 40 containers a week which drops to about the same volume per month during the rest of the year.
