A weekly guaranteed express consolidated part load service between South Africa and Zambia is being expanded by 4PL Africa.“Utilising our own assets in South Africa and Zambia, we will roll out the service to incorporate a ‘return and repair’ service aimed at the mining market,” 4PL Africa managing director Paul Cunliffe told Freight News. The company has a service for internal distribution within Zambia, and is also opening a “fully operational clearing office at the Kazungula border post in Zambia.“Border crossings remain a challenge. The placement of dedicated resources is aimed at decreasing the crossing times. “Sadly, most of the time challenges are caused by external factors,” he said.Cunliffe added that the consolidation service was being expanded to cater for changing load dynamics in the market.“More and more companies are opting for less than full loads, hence the decision to enhance our current service offering.”Another trend f lagged by Cunliffe is the issues in the SA ports, which will continue to rob volumes on the north-south corridor.“4PL’s positioning and f lexibility in moving assets wherever needed means that we can assist clients by switching to any corridor which has fewer delays and costs,” he said.
