THE reconfiguration of the port of Walvis Bay will see the development of a waterfront on one side of the container berths and the expansion of fishing and commercial facilities on the other. Still in its early planning phase, the proposed waterfront area is a joint venture with the Walvis Bay municipality, according to Namport manager sales and services, Elias Mwenyo. Plans for the waterfront include hotels, restaurants, a cruise liner terminal, small craft basin, shopping malls, entertainment facilities and sporting amenities. Included in the upgrade of the fishing section is a 25 000 m2 cold storage facility. All the discharge of fish in the port will also be moved to the fishing quay.
