Watching the virus: SA’s corona-closed borders

The land borders that have been closed following last night’s coronavirus containment announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa are:

Namibia – Alexander Bay, Onseepkans, Rietfontein and Sendelingsdrift.

Botswana – Bray, Derdepoort, Gemsbok, McCarthy’s Rest, Middelputs, Mokopong, Mokgobistad, Platjan, Pondrift, Stockpoort, Swartkopfontein, Tweerivieren and Zanzibar.

Mozambique – Pafuri, Giriyondo and Kosi Bay.

Eswatini – Bothashoop, Emahlatini, Josefsdal, Nerston, Onverwacht and Waverley.

Lesotho – Boesmansnek, Makhaleng Bridge, Monontsha Pass, Ongeluksnek, Peka Bridge, Ramatsiliso, Sani Pass, Sephaphus Gate, Tele Bridge.

Zimbabwe is the only country bordering South Africa that will not be affected by having a crossing into South Africa closed.

And although it emerged this morning that the two seaports Ramaphosa mentioned are Saldanha and Mossel Bay, Transnet National Ports Authority said earlier today that nothing had been confirmed about having to close the two ports.
