VOLKSWAGEN HAS shelved plans to establish an assembly plant in Zimbabwe, and will instead invest its money in South Africa where the Uitenhage plant is to be expanded.
Zimbabwe's Industry and Commerce Minister Nathan Shamuyarira has confirmed the German company's change of mind , lamenting the impact the decision will have on job losses.
The country's unstable currency, soaring interest rates and uncertain investment climate have already forced the temporary closure of the state-owned Willowvale Motor Industries assembly plant in Harare.
