SA will be main supplier of
catalytic converters
AS PART of the defence offset programme arranged with Sweden for the supply of jet fighter and trainer aircraft to the SAAF, the Volvo car manufacturer is set to use SA as main supplier of catalytic converters and alloy wheels for its assembly plants around the world.
Although as yet unconfirmed, SA leather seat covers - already well proven by BMW sourcing exclusively from this country - might be next on the Swedish car company's buying list.
Another of the seven non-defence related projects signed between the SA and Swedish trade and industry authorities is an agreement with the multi-national technology company, ABB, for them to manufacture components in SA for export.
These non-defence sweeteners were part of the persuasion package put together by the Scandinavian deal-makers of Saab and BAE to sell 24 Hawk trainers and a number of Gripen fighter aircraft to the SAAF.
