Ports, customs to be brought on board
Andre Wissler ... getting
all the stake-
holders
on board
A NEW e-commerce 'exchange' which allows shippers to link to their partners in the supply chain via the Internet has been launched.
The R30-million initiative, implemented by Collaborative Xchange, is a new entity established by The Logistics Bureau in collaboration with logistics major Super Group. The sophisticated technology has been acquired from Canadian based Descartes Systems Group (NASDAC - DSGX), and is already successfully operating in a number of large organisations in Europe, Asia and America.
Driving the project is experienced shipping and e commerce specialist Andre Wissler whose major task is to get all the stakeholders on board. These will include the likes of port authorities, Customs and various logistics service providers, all of whom are vital to the delivery of integrated logistics and supply chain solutions, which is the ultimate objective of the project, says Wissler. The 'exchange' links clients and their suppliers, via the Internet, and provides various data
transformation, track and trace, process monitoring and intelligent alerting
services, says Wissler. Through this integration capability, users of the supply chain network operating system are provided with complete supply chain visibility, the ability to improve the efficiency of their fulfilment processes and communication with trading partners, which is critical to a collaborative commerce environment.
TLB was established five years ago to provide its clients with an all-encompassing logistics package.
This new exchange is the first full service, multi-industry initiative of its kind in Africa, says Wissler. The future of the exchange will be its evolution to become the host through which multiple logistical and supply chain services are sourced and supplied to clients.
