A joint operation between the police and the South African Revenue Services (Sars) last week resulted in the detention of 46 cars worth over R1.8 million. The week-long joint operation targeted illegal second hand vehicle importers in Durban, according to BuaNews. Sars spokesperson Sibabalwenathi Mfabe said second-hand cars were imported to South Africa from Asian countries for onward export to African countries, but the cars never left South Africa and were sold to unsuspecting citizens. Mfabe said all vehicles detained during the operation would be seized by the state because they had exceeded the maximum stay in a bonded warehouse.
