ED RICHARDSON EXPORTS OF passenger cars and light commercials are expected to overtake those of the previous record, according to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa) report for the second quarter of 2005. It estimates that exports will hit 145 500 – well ahead of the previous best of 125 306 in 2002 and 2004’s 111 253. “Although at the mid-year mark aggregate industry exports were some 5,5% behind the corresponding total for the six months in 2004, vehicle exports should receive a significant boost from about the middle of 2005 onwards, as a result of the commencement of various new export programmes,” says the report.
