UNDER NEW regulations in the US Registration of Food Facilities, food exporters to the US are now required to register with the Federal Drug Administration (FDA), according to the trade consultancy at Deloitte & Touche. This is part of the so-called “Bio-terrorism Act” (the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002) to protect against a threatened or actual terrorist attack on the USA’s food supply. The regulations require “the owner, operator, or agent in charge of domestic and foreign facilities (or an individual authorised by one of them) that manufacture/process, pack, or hold food for human or animal consumption in the US” to register with the FDA by December 12.
