Negotiations of Phase One of the US-China trade deal are moving forward, according to United States trade representative Robert Lightizer who says China is ready to follow through on its agriculture-related commitments.
In a statement, the government official said that the Chinese government had committed to adhere to the agreed-upon terms which were implemented on Valentine’s Day this year.
“President Trump signed the Phase One agreement a little more than a month ago and we are already seeing positive results. Under the President’s leadership, we will ensure the agreement is strictly enforced for the benefit of our workers, farmers, ranchers and businesses,” he said.
The agreement is wide ranging and includes the lifting of a ban on imports of US poultry, an update of lists of facilities approved for exporting animal protein to China, and the exclusion of tariffs for imports of US agricultural products subject to China’s retaliatory tariffs.
