'HIGHLY DANGEROUS and potentially damaging to
existing companies in the parcel carrying business' is the verdict reached on the Postal Regulator Act
promulgated in 2000.
That's according Peter Baker of Sun Couriers, who has been appointed spokesman for the combined grouping of courier companies now dealing with the Postal Regulator
on the matter.
Currently the courier industry as a whole is
awaiting the outcome of submissions presented to the Department of Communications in the wake of the announcement of the implementation of the Act, which accords the Post Office exclusive rights on all parcels weighing up to one kilogram.
The South African International Courier Association, which started the ball rolling when it acted against the Department, has now called on other affected organisations, to form a unified body to present a solid front in negotiations with the department.
