Private sector investment in

infrastructure is crucial in

light of growing perishable

export volumes.

According to Derick

Robertson, executive: sales

and marketing for GoGlobal,

a logistics service provider

incorporating the GoReefers

brand, the company has

invested in a new and ultramodern

purpose-built cold

storage and citrus handling

facility close to the Port of

Durban.

“One of the challenges

in Durban and also Port

Elizabeth is infrastructure

development,” said Robertson.

“With all

the projected plants coming

into production there needs

to be real investment into

infrastructure. The quality of

the infrastructure is also key.”

He said

the company

had taken

the decision

to invest in

GoChill, a

modern cold

handling facility

with enough

commercial

and steri space,

plug points,

statutory

inspection

facilities and

other key attributes outside

the central Durban business

district.

“The advantage is

that trucks coming in

from production areas

are not required to deal with

the inner-city congestion

which means easy access and

faster turnaround times for

incoming trucks.”

He said the company had

also invested

in stateof-

the-art

technology

and systems

for the

facility such

as a modern

racking

system and a

sophisticated

electronic

pallet

tracking

system.

“This ensures access to

every pallet, enabling our

clients to manage their

load specification and stock

rotation with increased

efficiency,” said Robertson.
