Namibia’s Jet.X
Couriers service
is investing
in the latest
information technology to
secure and track parcels.
The company is one of
the first in Namibia to
introduce “sign on glass”
confirmation of despatch
and receipt, as well as
the latest generation of
electronic locks, says
manager Nian Berg.
Despatchers are equipped
with TomTom devices which
record digital signatures
and the place and time that
the signature was obtained.
Packages are secured
in bins and vehicles using
electronic locks which have
built-in timers and GPS
locators.
“Our vehicles are also
linked to TomTom vehicle
tracking. Delivery and
collection instructions are
issued via the device,” he
says.
Parcel Perfect is used to
track and trace parcels from
source to destination for
both imports and exports.
There is a daily
superlink service between
Johannesburg and
Windhoek with two drivers
to ensure rapid transit of
courier packages.
Complementing Jet.X’s
two superlinks working
on the route is a f leet of 19
8- and 14-ton panel vans
for dedicated loads or very
urgent cargo.
New vehicles have
recently been added to meet
demand.
Namibian companies are
able to keep stock levels at
a minimum due to the daily
courier services out of South
Africa, according to Berg.
For deliveries Monday to
Saturday to 65 destinations
within Namibia the
company operates a f leet
of 41 vehicles, including 16
new one ton bakkies.
There are 12 depots in
Namibia, and a staff of 134.
