The UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) has reported that 56 000 jobs have been shed in the last three months, the biggest drop in four years.

The reason? Brexit!

At least that’s the explanation touted, with the drop in employment coming at a time when most British economists predicted a growth of around 23 000 new vacancies.

In addition ONS data shows that salary growth and benefits such as bonuses are trending down, having dropped 0.1% from 3.9% in recent days.

And although there’s no crisis yet to speak of, ONS statistician Matt Hughes said: “The employment rate is still rising year on year, but this growth has cooled noticeably in recent months.”
