CLIVE EMDON IN A LARGELY impersonal industry in which clients often become no more than numbers on a list, a Johannesburg-based forwarding company wants to restore personal service to shipping and transportation. Belfreight’s MD Bela Broekman says her supply chain services to clients provide a complete sequence of shipping skills and trading services. “We offer a complete turnkey approach to import and export professionals who want to get on with their business but are daunted by their administrative burdens.” These include setting up terms with suppliers, route planning transporting, clearing and delivering shipments. “We can source products, purchase and import them for the client”, says Broekman. As freight agent and consolidator Belfreight handles imports mainly from the US, Brazil, France, Italy, the UK, China, Holland and Bulgaria, using all global gateways. Broekman says Belfreight’s imports range from motor car parts and machinery to wooden flooring and energy drinks. The company exports mainly to Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Angola, and ships products like printers, photo-copiers, air-conditioners and sports goods.
