Transnet/Swazi Railway fraud alert

Swaziland Railway management
has warned that there are several
fraudulent tender documents,
being circulated on behalf of the
Swazi railway company and/or
Transnet Freight Rail, soliciting
quotations for equipment and
services.
“We are in possession of a fake
tender document, purported
to have come from Transnet –
featuring both Swaziland Railway
and Transnet logos – requesting
a quotation from a Swaziland
supplier for certain equipment
to be used on the Swaziland Rail
Link project,” a spokesperson for
Swaziland
Railway
management
said in a
statement
sent to FTW
last Friday.
“This
document has
a fake contact
person, a fake
number and
address and the
well-publicised rail link project is
being used to attract interest,” he
said.
He said the Swaziland police
had been made aware of this
and were investigating several
incidents.
“We are aware of the fact that
there may be various forms of
fraudulent letters and tender
requests other than the one we
have in our possession and wish
to state categorically that neither
Transnet nor Swaziland Railway
have commissioned anyone to
solicit quotations or purchase any
goods or services on our behalf.”
According to him, tender
requests are
always
published
in various
national
newspapers
and those
advertised
requests
always have both
parties’ telephone numbers
displayed prominently.
