Small-, medium- and micro enterprises (SMMEs) on South Africa’s West Coast have benefited from the Port of Saldanha’s R61,4 million security fencing project as part of Transnet National Ports Authority’s (TNPA’s) commitment to supplier development and the promotion of economic growth.
TNPA said on Tuesday that the project had involved the installation of high-tech security fencing at a completed contract value of R61.4 million.
Some 14 local SMMEs that were involved in the project, ranged from transport associations to those providing construction services, engineering and security services, TNPA said.
The authority’s manager at the Port of Saldanha, Shadrack Tshikalange, said the project had been successfully completed recently and had created 136 temporary jobs.
"This project symbolises TNPA’s commitment to the communities we operate in.
“We are proud to have not only fortified our port facilities but also uplifted the lives of the people who call this place home.
“The collaboration and dedication shown by all stakeholders involved have truly made a difference,” Tshikalange said.
The new 2.4 metres of steel mesh ClearVu high-security fencing, plus anti-climbing of 0.3m is reinforced with toughened steel on every vertical flat bar and has the strength of a high-security fence.
