Thousands of flights cancelled as US northeast hit by blizzard

Airlines cancelled thousands of flights as a winter storm bore down on the northeast of the US, with over 30 centimetres of snow forecast.

More than 2 000 flights were cancelled on Monday. And, according to the airline-tracking website FlightAware, more than 5 000 were cancelled on Tuesday, including more than 2 800 in the New York City area.
