South Africa’s freight sector in all its guises was well represented at Thursday evening’s Gauteng iteration of Thirsty’s, the no-speeches networking social held regularly by Freight News in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
As a fleeting microcosm of the industry, it showcased the diversity of the cargo community – young and old, novices and experts, male and female, the smorgasbord of South African society really, all sharing one common interest – logistics.
Notably present were the educators, specialising in everything supply chain and freight forwarding.
It was particularly pleasing to see representatives from a newcomer to our loyal list of advertisers, Boston City Campus, exchanging ideas with the likes of Metro Minds’ specialists.
Regulars from the air, ocean and road freight industries were also present, as were attendees from the clearing sector.
Easy Clear’s representative was probably one of the youngest, all of 23, and happened to bump into an old school friend, also 23 and now with Megafreight. Talk about this being a small world.
Of course, some of the most experienced executives from the industry were there to share insights about the freight sector, representing companies such as Air Menzies, Leschaco, Freitan, CMA CGM and SAA – to name a few.
Thirsty’s at The Country Club in Woodmead, Johannesburg, once again showed why it’s a not-to-be-missed event on the annual calendar.
