Thieves make off with fully laden container

Cape thieves are becoming more brazen by the day, having recently pulled off the theft of an entire fully loaded container. It would clearly have required specialised equipment such as a crane truck, suggesting a level of professionalism, perhaps. Gordons Bay businessman, Alex Wheeler, is bemused at how the thieves pulled it off given he has never heard of a whole container being stolen in the Cape. He left the two-ton box and its contents of scrap metal, including automotive parts, on an industrial site and found it had disappeared when he returned after the weekend – with the exception of tyre tracks. Police suspect the target would actually have been the scrap metal but whether the thieves knew it or not, the container might actually fetch more on the fencing market. That said, police are investigating a highly unusual case of theft.
